United Way of Chennai
United Way Chennai is a non-profit organization committed to improving lives and strengthening communities across India, with no geographic limitations. In partnership with corporates, we tackle pressing social challenges in education, health, livelihoods, environment, and disaster response, working alongside NGOs, volunteers, and community leaders. With extensive hands-on experience in each area, we implement programs that create meaningful, lasting impact. From enhancing access to quality education and healthcare, empowering youth and women through skill-building and livelihood opportunities, restoring water bodies and promoting environmental sustainability, to providing timely disaster relief and rehabilitation, our interventions are designed for long-term community resilience. Through strategic partnerships and holistic initiatives, we strive to empower communities across India to thrive and build a better, more equitable future.

The beginning
The Beginning of the journey 2010
Establishing our CSR & Volunteering verticals
- Provided assistive devices & employment opportunities to the differently-abled

A year of resilient change
- Miyawaki program to create a small forest on unproductive land of 395.43 square meters
- Restored 2 lakes of 7.5 acres and 10.5 acres in Tamil Nadu
Standing with the community
- Erected a 2.5-kilometer steel rope fence that is friendly to elephants in the villages surrounding elephant habitats along the Jawalagiri Forest Range.
- Renovation of the Pediatric ward and ICU at Lawley Hospital in Coonoor.
- Extended essential one-time financial assistance to street vendors, domestic laborers, and daily wage laborers who had been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Year of empowerment
- Established banana fibre product manufacturing centres, offering an alternative means of livelihood for 150 women involved in beedi rolling
- Empowered 50 girls between the age group of 15 to 21 from coastal communities in Kovalam, Chennai, and Calicut, Kerala, to equip them in open water swimming.
- Initiated the ‘COVID Express’ program, benefiting 118 families spread across 11 districts in Tamil Nadu
YEAR OF NEW BEGINNINGS
- Benefited 24,025 students through education-focused interventions
- Provided critical support to 15 hospitals and primary health centres
- Awarded 374 scholarships, reinforcing our commitment to education
- Reached 180 differently-abled individuals through inclusive initiatives
- Reached 597,936 individuals through our initiatives
- Focused support extended to 116,714 women and 11,626 children
- Impact created across 30 schools and 8 Anganwadi centres
