We met Miranda, a visually challenged student at National Institute for Empowerment of People with Disabilities (NIEPMD). He had just completed his masters degree in Special Education. A rare genetic disorder had resulted in him becoming deaf. This seemed like an end to his dream of pursuing his PHd and writing a book on disability.
We presented Miranda with an assistive device that converts typed words into braille script. A Braille Edge 40, which we procured with the help of our corporate partners. Now Miranda is determined to complete his Ph.D. He told us, “This device makes it possible for me to reconnect with the world. It has given light to my life. I have decided to start my work on a book on disability.” We hope he becomes a best-selling author.
